An excellent example of fossil evidence concurring with genetic data

Creationists can wax eloquently all day long about the complexities of DNA replication, and wonder aloud endlessly how such a thing can evolve. But while they do this real scientists are doing actual research that unfolds the evolutionary relationships between both living and past species.

Jerry Coyne posted at his blog Why Evolution is True last year about a groundbreaking paper, but it is such a great example of how scientists gather formidable evidence for the relatedness of species, and concrete data demonstrating the origin of complex structures that it’s worth reading today (and will be for a long time), and storing here in the Tool Box.

More DNA data is examined all the time that explains the evolutionary history of life on Earth. The results cited in the paper Morphological and Molecular Evidence for a Stepwise Evolutionary Transition from Teeth to Baleen in Mysticete Whales by Thomas A. Demere and his co-authors align perfectly with this view.

After reading Coyne’s description, bop on over to Laelaps for another one.
